The Cat Lady

This was painted by a Serbian artist, for me, commissioned by my Croatian ex.

I went to Croatia to meet his parents during the war, as you do, and to stop him being thrown into jail as a deserter.

While we were there, we went to amazing medieval coffee shop , on top of a cliff, that was built into an old 15th century fort. The shop had lots of beautiful paintings hanging there, and we sat down directly across from this one .

I said to him, "Oh I love that painting, its so much like me" (I had 8 cats) and he said "look at the plaque on it".

The plaque had written on it,"To Enigma , my life and my Love, Happy Birthday, from Dean."

It was one of the most romantic things anyone has ever done for me.

(Its 5 foot and weighs 25 kilos, and we lugged it across five countires, getting it home)

Hi Mr Big, Bad, the country was beautiful too, except everyone(including the kids) was fully armed, very twichy and international military everywhere.
The painting is done in chalk, so it got a bit messed up on the way back.

Jo,I have been lucky with the men I have loved..most of them have been romantic, I broke it off with him 10 years ago, we were engaged and all that..he was the love of my life..but a lot younger, and in the end, the maturity differance was too great for me.
He is now a fairly famous punk rock musician, with 2 kids

All those guns and lugging that painting too, sounds like an adventure. You know you can get it lacquered to keep the chalk still? Probably you already do, but i just thought i'ld mention it.

I know,Paul...i havnt done it yet though.......
And i should clarify my statement above, he was ONE of the great loves of my life, my partner is the other.

That was supremely romantic! Wow, I wish someone would do something similar for me...mind you, I currently have just one cat (who is a handful in himself). Hopefully I will two cats by the end of next year. A female to keep my male company.

I love the painting, and the story behind it...one of a lover and a gift.
So a new lover and a new story now.
Ahh...the sweetness of life!

Thank you for sharing this with us!

cara, anyone that describes herself as a lovable, demented cow, is more than welcome her.

I love the painting and the thought/story behind it. How wonderfully... just wonderful. That is a country/setting I look forward to visiting someday.

(All this written from one cat lady to another - I have 4 currently, each with their own story)

TE.i am over run with the little monsters at the moment, the feral mum is due to give birth to the next batch any day aarrgghh, croatia is beautiful ,I would like to go back one day.

Middy, I dont think romance is dead, my partner once paid me $5,000 to spend the evening with him..I had a very well paid corporate tarot job on, and he bought me out.I have the painting hanging up in my dining room.

WHOLLY SHIT! For real? I don't know if he had anything else going for him but he at least has one hll of a romantic streak in him? Shit, and I thought I was doing good with the poetry and moonlit walks...

nitebyrd, it was storybook romantic,

ozzy -he had a lot else going on for him, as my new post shows..and moonlit walks and poetry, on a regular basis, are maybe more important than one off grand gestures.
